Living in Two Worlds
“She has natural psychic abilities.”
“He has the gift of clairvoyance.”
“Psychics have this innate, inborn talent that I don’t have”
Does this sound familiar? Are there voices inside your head, telling you that you don’t have psychic abilities?
We’ve all heard these kinds of statements, and perhaps bought into a belief system that sets those who practice psychic arts apart from us. The belief system sounds something like this: this person was born with this inborn capacity to access their psychic gifts that are mysterious, unreachable, and unattainable for us mere mortals.
I want to not only challenge the foundation of this belief system, but to go even further in saying that the evolution of our species depends on all of us accepting our own innate psychic abilities.
We – every single one of us — have these gifts.

Our psychic abilities are simply muscles that we didn’t know we had, and when we do discover this muscle, they’ve likely atrophied from lack of exercise. As a result we think we don’t have the gift and can give our power and trust away to others.
If we think of accessing our intuition as reaching through a veil between worlds, it is possible that some people may be born with a thinner veil. Their access to their psychic abilities flows more freely and naturally.
Regardless, we have erred in erecting a belief system that holds that these “natural psychics” are the keepers of some secret, unattainable access to information. Not only are the assumptions faulty, they serve as a barrier to entry for all of us into the wondrous and mysterious world of an intuitively guided life.
My story is an example of buying into this belief system and thereby losing myself in the process.
I was raised in a household that valued both spiritual curiosity as well as intellectual pursuits. My parents were highly educated . . . my father held a Ph.D. in psychology and my mother a MA in theology. We valued scientific reasoning while also understanding that there was a mysterious, divine power at play in our universe.
I was indeed blessed to know that one can believe in science and metaphysics.
However, that foundation didn’t fully translate into a life of integration of these worlds, as I was challenged by the paradigm that science and metaphysics don’t mix.
I kept my beliefs hidden. My daytime work hours were spent squarely in my linear left brain while all other hours were dedicated to spiritual study and practice.
I felt I was living in two worlds, each on a separate yet parallel track.
Later in life, I eventually found a path of integration and living more fully in both worlds. However, the journey to get here was filled with angst, self-doubt and questioning.
I was fortunate to have a few guides along the way, but our society is still largely devoid of signposts and guides modeling the full integration of our psychic and intellectual abilities.
Can we change this paradigm from one of separation and compartmentalization to one of integration, unity, and the full embrace of our beautiful yet paradoxical selves?
In our sacred wounds lie our sacred gifts. This journey showed me my purpose, which is accompanying seekers in accessing, integrating, and strengthening their intuitive abilities.
Meeting your intuitive self requires building trust, learning the language of soul, and making the choice to believe even as your rational brain is fighting you.
Just like any new relationship, it starts with the longing for intimacy. There is no more intimate relationship than the one you build with your soul. And, it can be a lonely journey. Know that there is a growing community of seekers who embrace this new paradigm – of believing in the power of dreams, synchronicities, psychic impulses, spirit guides, etc.
You are not alone.
